Did you know that all the words that end in -tion, -cian, -sion have the same stress pattern?
Do you know what stress is? Some people call the stress the accent. It means that one syllable is pronounced louder and longer than the others.
RULE: Words ending in -tion, -sion, -cian are all stressed right before that ending.
So for example (the capital letters indicate the stressed syllable):
Try pronouncing these words. Say the stressed syllable louder and longer. Can you hear how they all have the same pattern? Then think of some more words you know that end in -tion, -sion, or -cian.
